|| Discipulus Episode 0 : The Encounter ||

The pavement on the shoulder of the road looked long and unforgiving.

It stretched to the tip of the darkened horizon and took a right bend at the traffic lights, disappearing into the distance. To the left were the occasional cars, trucks that whizzed past. On the right laid a large black field of tall grass.

Chilly. 3.31 a.m.

I knew it was a bad idea.
It was Christmas eve.
Decided to welcome Christmas by attending mass at a church in SengKang. It ended sometime between 2 a.m. and home was Hougang.
I had to walk back.
It was not without choice but my conscious-self rejected the opportunity to board a taxi.
Costly.
Was penniless anyway.
The icy night breeze caressed my body and I cursed.

"Great thinking Kenny, this is all totally unnecessary and pointless. Now I know God has a Plan fer you and all but this clearly is just your earthly consequence to choose to walk home and endure this cold and silence," I thought.
The journey home was still a good 1, 2 kilometres. Enjoy Kenny.

The vehicles whizzed past, oblivious to my singular, lonesome presence. Apparently hitchhiking wasn't much of a thing to be said of in Singapore. Soliciting free rides along a road was never really a culture here. Or so I think.

And then there was light.

Ahead the pavement with which I was to walk, a bright and unwavering source of brightness approached. At first I thought it was the headlights of a bicycle. No, it was a tad too bright and "unnatural". The light swelled from only a point to a human figure as it got nearer.

"It" was not alone.

Some 100 metres away already and I saw a misty whitish smoke tagging along the left side of the lightman. It was as if the smoke was following "him". To his right followed another person. It was human.
I was starting to panic and my movement decelerated from breeze walking to walking to standing.

Heart-palpitations. Ghost? My Gosh....

Somehow as the 3 entities got nearer and nearer, time seemed to stop. Fear began to elude me. Which was strange, I felt reassuring fer the moment and moments to come.I just stared straight at the walkers. This time they were so near that brightness enveloped me. I was blinded. Shut my eye.
There was warmthness amidst the cold atmosphere.
The traveling vehicles seemed to be nonexistent.

Warm 3.33a.m.

"And so we finally meet, Mr. Kenny" It spoke.
They spoke.
